Angsty af。 Pretty much the exact same storyline that YN told in volume five， though expanded to fit in two volumes， and with the same resolution。 She also recycled Akira's short stint as a villain when she gives Ruka the ambition to break them up because he thinks Nemu is holding Maya back， when it fact， he actually makes him a better person。 YN did choke some tears out of me though with depressed Maya and lonely， miserable Nemugasa。 Not much in the the way of smut， sadly， yet still satisfying a Angsty af。 Pretty much the exact same storyline that YN told in volume five， though expanded to fit in two volumes， and with the same resolution。 She also recycled Akira's short stint as a villain when she gives Ruka the ambition to break them up because he thinks Nemu is holding Maya back， when it fact， he actually makes him a better person。 YN did choke some tears out of me though with depressed Maya and lonely， miserable Nemugasa。 Not much in the the way of smut， sadly， yet still satisfying as we finally get to see Maya say his 143。 Seriously though， if YN really wanted to keep the series fresh， Nemu would come out to his mom and she would be a stern defender of their relationship。 Maybe even take on Maya's unnamed dad and give him what for。 。。。more

I've followed this series for a long time， before-there-was-a-twinkle-in-a-US-publisher's-eye followed。 I've watched the mangaka's works expand， I've followed her through many a series online and in print and I have to say that having come this far， I've become disappointed with her work overall。 Ms。 Nekota consistently disappoints with her plot， her characters and their mutual development and Don't Be Cruel Vol。9 really highlights this。 I do not recommend this series， especially this volume。Nem I've followed this series for a long time， before-there-was-a-twinkle-in-a-US-publisher's-eye followed。 I've watched the mangaka's works expand， I've followed her through many a series online and in print and I have to say that having come this far， I've become disappointed with her work overall。 Ms。 Nekota consistently disappoints with her plot， her characters and their mutual development and Don't Be Cruel Vol。9 really highlights this。 I do not recommend this series， especially this volume。Nemugasa and Maya are having another disagreement。 It's not a fight， because they don't break up angry with each other， but they are once again rehashing the same situation for the third or fourth time。 Nemugasa can't trust Maya。 He's too insecure， too immature and too weak to sit Maya down and speak with him as an adult， which since they're both in college， they are。 They're once again on two separate pages because 1） Nemu can't get over his insecurity and 2） Ms。 Nekota can't think of anything else to provide conflict in their story。 Ruka is a non-issue。 The mangaka makes a big deal of him but he hasn't once made significant moves on Maya that haven't been rebuffed and there's no real threat here。 The audience knows this and since this is the second time it's been a focal point of stress， Nemu knows it too。 Yet here we are again， watching the same song and dance play out again but the emotional payoff is supposed to hit more home this time （it would， if this was the culmination of each other them making the effort to look at themselves and their relationship， it's good and bad parts， instead of just miming it and being -told- they're good people by stock-form side characters）。Maya， on his end， is too accommodating; too dependent。 If this were a series where I could expect significant character depth， I would think the guilt of how their relationship began was still affecting him--but no， it's simply his dependence on Nemugasa's happiness and acknowledgement that keeps him tied in knots， incapable of thinking and moving forward or god forbid keeping at a job he loves so much。 Both of these two are stuck in an eternal tug-of-war that keeps getting recycled over and over， with neither character ever learning or growing from it， evidenced by this argument being the third time it's happened and the previous times being immediately before this one。 Is this one supposed to be the big climax？ Because。。。nothing has changed。 Nemu has learned -nothing- other than he can't control his insecurities and still has no way of coping with them without dragging Maya along by the nose until Nemu's calmed down from his current freak out。 This， I might add， took two months and in that Maya basically lost his job （a fact I assume will be promptly forgotten） and was so depressed he couldn't get out of bed。 Both of these guys need counseling， therapy， to -talk- about how Nemu can work on his own troubles and Maya can hold himself back from self-destruction from Nemu's pain when it rears its head。 They can be good together as a couple， but not right now， they're their own worst enemies emotionally。 Ultimately I've found their story wholly unsatisfying and I lay thay disappoint at Ms。 Nekota's feet。 Her insistence on recycling drama， her lack of initiative to dive into the underlying issues between Nemu and Maya （her brief foray into Maya's guilt over his rape of Nemu was pathetic and laughable and almost made me drop the series entirely， ironic considering my thoughts now） is incredibly disappointing。 I'd advise her to look into the characterization offered by Ranmaru or Ogretsu Tanaka， the depth they bring their characters even within only a couple chapters。 Ms。 Nekota needs to pause and ask herself if she wants to make a lasting story or a shallow one， quickly forgotten， because Don't Be Cruel has sunk itself firmly into the latter。 Right now I just don't think Don't Be Cruel is good enough to continue。 Maybe that will change if I hear good things， but for now Vol。 9 has disappointed me one time too many and I sincerely don't recommend this book or its series anymore。 Knowing the rest of her work， I don't have plans to buy from this mangaka again。 What a shame。 。。。more

I am so glad we got a good resolution for Nemu and Maya’s relationship issues。 I guess it sort of had to happen because these two’s lack of communication about how they were feeling/how they felt about each other has always been their biggest issue as a couple。Now， hopefully everything is smooth sailing and I can’t wait to see where their relationship takes them next。

If you love yaoi。 This is a must read！This is literally the best yaoi manga series I have ever read。 The artwork is beautiful and the characters and story are so well thought out and developed you become so invested in what happens to the happy couple and everyone around them。 Please note: volume one was meant to be a one off so。。。。 its problematic in regards to story canon now。 This is due to the inclusion of sexual assault which is never okay but， please give this a chance as it is such a good If you love yaoi。 This is a must read！This is literally the best yaoi manga series I have ever read。 The artwork is beautiful and the characters and story are so well thought out and developed you become so invested in what happens to the happy couple and everyone around them。 Please note: volume one was meant to be a one off so。。。。 its problematic in regards to story canon now。 This is due to the inclusion of sexual assault which is never okay but， please give this a chance as it is such a good series outside of that one volume it's totally worth reading especially if you like smutty yaoi manga。 I promise you won't be disappointed！！！ 。。。more
